Privacy policy
WhiteGap is an app for logging business ideas every day and checking how crowded their market is. It is run by WhiteGap ("we"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions: help@ykwim.in.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, the name you choose, your time zone, and whether you signed in with an email code or Google / Apple.
- Your ideas: the text you log, its category, notes, whether it was typed or spoken, and when you logged it.
- Validation results: the market analysis we generate for ideas you choose to validate.
- Discuss chats: the questions you ask about an idea and the AI's answers, kept with that idea so you can come back to them.
- AI usage: how many AI tokens each request used and what it cost, so we can apply daily limits. This doesn't include what you wrote.
- Technical data: IP address, device type and app version in server logs, used to keep the service running and secure.
- Push notification token: an identifier for your phone, so we can tell you when a validation is ready. Removed when you sign out. A notification shows the first few words of the idea it's about.
- Crash reports and usage events (Android app): when the app crashes, a report with the device model, OS and app version and the screens you visited; and anonymous usage events such as "idea logged", "validation finished" or which screen was opened, tied to your account id. These never include the text of your ideas, notes, your name or your email.
We don't use advertising SDKs, and we don't sell or rent your data.
Voice capture
When you speak an idea, your device's speech recognition service (Google on Android, Apple on iOS) turns it into text and may process the audio under that provider's privacy policy. WhiteGap only receives the resulting text; we never receive or store audio.
Reminders
Daily reminders are scheduled on your device. The times you pick are also saved to your account, so they carry over to a new phone and help us understand when people want a nudge.
How we use your data
- To sign you in, keep your ideas in sync across your devices, and show your streak and activity.
- To validate an idea when you ask: its text and category are sent to our AI provider, which researches existing products and scores the market. We ask providers not to use this data to train their models where they offer that option.
- To answer your questions in Discuss: your question, the idea, its notes and its market analysis are sent to the AI provider. A short check may first look for messages trying to misuse the AI.
- To email you sign-in codes. We don't send marketing email.
Who processes it for us
- Hosting and database: stores your account and ideas.
- Email delivery: sends sign-in codes.
- AI provider (currently Groq): receives the text of ideas you validate or discuss, and your Discuss questions.
- Google / Apple: only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Google Firebase (Crashlytics, Analytics and Cloud Messaging): crash reports, usage events, and delivering push notifications.
- Sentry: error reports from our servers, without the content of your ideas.
How long we keep it
Deleting an idea erases its market analysis and its Discuss chat. We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account it is erased from our database immediately; copies in encrypted backups are overwritten within 30 days. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.
Your choices
- Delete your account in the app under Account → Delete account, or on the web at ykwim.in/whitegap/account/delete/. This removes every idea, validation and streak.
- Get a copy of your data or correct it by writing to help@ykwim.in.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or India) you may have further rights, such as objecting to processing or complaining to your data protection authority.
Security
Data travels over HTTPS. Sign-in tokens are kept in your device's secure storage and can be revoked from Account → Sign out of all devices.
Children
WhiteGap isn't meant for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app for significant changes.
